The first trophies for the AMA Awards are now being sent out for presentation

After an interruption due to logistical and production problems, the first AMA Awards trophies are now being sent out for presentation across the continent and around the world. As planned, the professional organisations are scheduling the ceremonies around their winners’ schedules. All winners receive a diploma; regional winners receive an additional medal; and global winners also receive a statuette.

To celebrate music as a woman, Africa as a mother, and African music as the mother of all world pop music in its rhythmic DNA, the Academy has decided to make the statuette a woman carrying a large kalimba (an instrument that is both percussive and melodic), rather than a man as is commonly expected.
